Portable Family Goes To Spain

We’re going Portable again! Yet another two week school holiday is rolling our way (it starts in only 4 hours), even though the kids are at school today, Good Friday. Only 6 weeks after their last 2 week holidays! Which was 6 weeks after the Christmas hols… If you like breaks, this is the place to be.

We are going to join my mother in Southern Spain. She’s been here for two weeks but left yesterday to fit in Grenada before her flight to Canada. Tris returned from Canada the day she left and is currently upstairs sleeping after the overnight flight.

After a fair bit of planning and looking, we have an eleven-day outing planned which will cost our family of five around (* up to) 3500 Cad.

  • Cost breakdown: 2350 euros estimated* I’ll let you know if we hit this!
  • 11 nights accommodation for 795 euros (72 euros/night)
  • Car: 350 est. Tolls: 53 euros one way. Gas 100 one way
  • Food: 900 euros: one 50 euro meal out per day, 30 euros for breakfast and dinner, snacks
  • Misc: entries, souvenirs…: 300

We’re going to fill the Dacia 6 seater and leave after lunch on Easter Sunday. I’m busy packing: one little bag each, and all the extras. Swim gear, laundry detergent, light coats for the rain forecast. Then we put 3 sugar-fueled kids in the car (thanks, Easter bunny), and head off for just north of Valencia! We meet mom in Cordoba, go on to Seville and Ronda with her, and then part ways for Gibraltar, then finally Grenada, before we make our way home.

I’ll update with how it went, actual cost, what we loved and worked with kids, and what didn’t. The weather looks cloudy and wet, but we don’t care! (well, ok a little). Comment below if you have suggestions!
